Birthday Extravaganza and a Trip to Utah!

This trip to Utah seems like it was so long ago!  (I guess it kind of was since it was over a month ago!)  Boy, do we miss our family who live far away, but we're so thankful for the times we get to be together and celebrate!

We made a trip to Utah to celebrate Leah's first birthday!!  Her birthday is just two days apart from Aubrey's so we got to celebrate both of their birthdays in one weekend, hence the birthday extravaganza title :).

We drove to Utah on a Friday right after Brandon got off of his midnight shift around 6:00am.  The plan was for him to sleep in the car, but he only got about an hour of sleep.  As always though, he was a trooper and has learned to function pretty well on lack of sleep :).  The girls did awesome on the 10 1/2 hour drive!  We stopped a couple of times, but for the most part they did wonderful!

This was the first time we were going to see Jon and Krystal's first home!!  It was beautiful and fits them just perfectly.  The views from their windows are incredible and their yard is huge!  Plenty of room for the busy girls to run around in :).

Saturday, we had a birthday party to celebrate Leah's first.  Of course Krystal went all out with adorable decorations and really went out on the delicious food (pasta bar with homemade sauces!).  I helped her make some caramel for a caramel apple bar for dessert.  So yummy!

And this little cutie...she was in good spirits and ready to party!

Present opening with a one year old is always entertaining :).

After presents it was cake time.  The second Leah saw that candle flame her hands went right for it! She was sad for a little bit, but was quickly consoled with a little frosting taste.

This little girl didn't hesitate to dig right in!

Oh, and that's Dr. Pepper in that sippy cup.  A tradition was started with Norah and the Fox family that they would gift the first sugary drink and it just had to continue with Leah!

Leah was pretty excited to show us that she was '1' with her tiny finger :).  It was so fun to get to be there to celebrate this milestone birthday with her!

The next day, Sunday, was Aubrey's real birthday.  We began the morning with pancakes and presents!  Her big present was that she was going to pick out a bike for herself when we got back home!  She was a little confused as to why the bike wasn't there, but when we explained how it was going to work she was pretty excited about it!

That day was filled with church and lunch and in the evening Krystal and I put together a little tea party for our little girls.  On the menu were some of Aubrey's favorites...popcorn, tangerines, bananas, peperoni roll ups, and a peanut butter sandwich with sprinkles!  You just have to have some sprinkles on your birthday :).

The girls seemed to enjoy it and Leah wanted to join in on the fun as well.

I'm glad we actually got a picture of Lucy eating!  She does eat sometimes!  Maybe I should come back and look at this picture more often to remind myself when she's really struggling to eat :).

Monday came and we went to an awesome children's museum not far from the house.  It was three stories of fun and the girls enjoyed every moment of it!  There's nothing quite like this museum in California (or one that we know of) and it was such a fun morning with all of us.

Our last day, Tuesday, was spent riding the train to Salt Lake City.  For $10 the train took us to the city and back!  So affordable and all the girls had a blast.  Lucy is crazy about trains and what fun it was to see her so excited that we were going to ride in one!

We snuck in some family pictures while we waited :).

We got downtown and went down to the mall play place to let the girls run free for a little bit.

Our last morning together before we took off, we were greeted with a fresh blanket of snow.  It was chilly, but oh so pretty!

The girls, although still in their jammies, were excited to get out and play in the snow!

Can you believe this is the view from Krystal and Jon's window?!

We went out to breakfast together that morning, said our tearful goodbyes, and we were off on the drive home again.  It was a fast, fun filled trip, but we are so thankful we got the opportunity to go.  So thankful to get to celebrate birthdays.  So thankful to celebrate with family :).
