"I Got the Spider! " {from the mouths of babes}

Lucy doesn't see fear in a lot of different situations and objects.  The girl is fearless sometimes!  Unlike her sister, Lucy isn't afraid of dogs, bugs or any other animal!

So, the other day I was washing dishes and Lucy asks me for a towel.  I thought she had to dry her hands or something with it, so I told her to get the kitchen towel that was hanging on the oven.  She took the towel and I went about my business with the dishes.

She comes back into the kitchen with the towel in hand and starts to hang it back up.  I ask her what she needed the kitchen towel for and she exclaims, "I got the spider!"
I abruptly turned around and asked, "What?"
"I got the spider mommy!  See?!"

The girl had killed a spider and picked it up with the kitchen towel and there was its remains.  The entire situation was pretty funny to me and so random for the crazy day of tantrums it had been with her.  Lucy took it upon herself to "take care" of the spider all on her own without batting an eye.  Way to rid our house of spiders Lucy!

And because we didn't take any pictures of the spider, I'll leave you with a few pictures of this little girl's expressions and silliness :).  Even when I was taking these pictures Lucy was swatting bees off the flowers and out of the air saying, "Shoo!"

Oh man, do we love your fearlessness and independence!! :)

Lucy's Secret

Little Miss Lucy is a hoot sometimes!  It's kind of hard to describe, but it's sometimes her mannerisms, or the way she says something, or the words she uses to explain something, but sometimes she just makes us laugh at everyday things.  She honestly brings so much laughter to our home!

The other day...I was sitting on the floor playing with her and it looked like she was kind of done building whatever we were building, so I told her I have a secret for her.  She came up to me, she leaned in and I whispered, "I love you."  She looked at me and smiled.  The I asked her, "Do you have a secret for me?" (Thinking that I might get an "I love you" too).  She grabbed my face and turned my head so she could whisper in my ear and in the sweetest whisper said, "Pee-pee, poo-poo."  I just couldn't help but erupt into laughter all by myself!!  Of all things to say!  I know this might be a little inappropriate, but at least maybe some of the potty training is sinking in?! I just wanted to remember this "secret" moment.

Her secret isn't so safe anymore :).

Lucy, thanks for the laughs we get each and every day from you. Keep that little personality coming! :)

The Doctor Is In

Almost on a daily basis we pretend play "doctor" at our house.  We have a doctor's kit and a veterinarian kit Aubrey was given on previous birthdays.  Lucy has taken to the stethoscope in both toys fondly :).

This morning was a "doctor's visit" that made me smile, so I want to remember this one.

Aubrey sat down and was ready to see her patient.  I handed her a little monkey stuffed animal named Mollie.  She quickly took a quick glance at the monkey and asked, "So what's been bothering her?"

I answered, "Her tummy and she keeps pulling at her ear."

Aubrey checked Mollie's ears and said they were clear.  She then took her blood pressure and checked her heart rate; both were fine.  She nonchalantly asked, "Has anyone been sick?"

I assumed she meant if anyone had been sick around Mollie.  I said that her sister was.  At that moment Lucy was crawling under a cover we had made a tent with and without blinking an eye Aubrey asked, "What is her sister doing?"

I laughed out loud as Lucy got out from under the tented blanket and gave us a huge smirk.

Aubrey continued to do a thorough checkup on Mollie.  She then turned her over and said, "Her stuffing is falling out.  Maybe that's why she's not feeling well.  Maybe her stuffing is itching her and bothering her."

I couldn't have diagnosed the problem any better :).  Web MD had nothing on Doctor Aubrey.  Aubrey went on to fix Mollie's stuffing dilemma and gave her some medicine for the pain and to help her feel better.  She also said that Mollie earned a lollipop for doing so well :).

It struck me as funny that in her three years of life Aubrey has picked up on so much and she said things that the doctor has said to her or Lucy verbatim!  Adult language coming from a three year old's pretend play was just too cute.  She's not in med school yet, but she sure is pretty good with her bedside manner :).

Chapstick Saga

I've written about it before, about this girl's obsession with Chapstick! Any color, any flavor, she loves to slather it on and put one in every play purse in the house.

Well, we've talked to Aubrey about how to use the Chapstick, about always putting the cap or cover on, and more importantly to only put the Chapstick on your lips and not in your mouth.

Today, while we're rushing trying to get ready for a wedding, she comes to me and says, "This Chapstick tasted good!" I immediately turned my head up from whatever I was doing and found her holding her little EOS Chapstick completely empty! Oh Aubrey.

She'll probably have chapped lips for a little while :). She is currently on Chapstick restriction.

From the Mouths of Babes ~ pt.3 [Aubrey, age 3]

Lucy likes to get into cabinets. She has one cabinet she is allowed to get into and of course the mess she makes of Tupperware and sippy cups are always strewn about the kitchen floor. Lately she also been crawling around with a stethoscope around her neck. She literally goes straight for it when we set her down.

Yesterday during dinner, Lucy finished up and needed out of her high chair. We set her down, she got her stethoscope and went straight for her cabinet. She made a mess as always and Aubrey turned around in her chair and plainly stated, "Oh silly girl. Doctors don't do that!"

These girls just brightened our night and they were just being themselves :).

From the Mouths of Babes [Aubrey, age 3]

Our oldest can say some pretty crazy things.  Some are just off the wall, some are hilarious, and some things she says makes her seem too old for her years :).

In an effort to remember some of the things she says, I've decided to document some of her statements in a segment I like to call "From the Mouths of Babes."

Brandon taking his vitamin in the morning:

Aubrey: Is your vitamin spicy?
Brandon: No, why?
Aubrey: Then why do you drink water after you put it in your mouth?

Yup.  That's our inquisitive girl :).

Aubrey Turns 3!!

Goodness!  We can't believe that three years have already gone by!!  I still remember the moment she was born and now she is very much a "big girl" in so many ways.

Aubrey is one crazy gymnast and born to do some ballet at some point in her life.  When she walks on her tippy toes she actually curls them!  She's been doing hand stands in her crib since she was one and she still is just as talented now.  She now uses the wall for support instead of her crib.

This is her about a year ago...

And now she can't stop jumping!

She can be pretty clumsy.  She hits walls, falls, and stubs her toes almost on a daily basis :).  She can be pretty coordinated with objects at times...

She became a big sister this year!  Despite some times of just wanting to be rough with Lucy she is one caring sister and has been from the start.  She talks to her just like we do and tries to calm her down in a soft, quiet voice.  She wants to pick Lucy up and hold her all the time.  She is the one person in this family who can make Lucy hysterically laugh and giggle.  Aubrey never ceases to bring a smile to Lucy's face.  It's hard to explain the relationship and bond with these two already and we are loving it.

Aubrey is a little mommy and caring to all her dolls :).

well...maybe most of the time :).

She prays for others and is caring towards family and friends.  She doesn't always show that but our conversations with Aubrey about friends and family always show us her true heart and that she is really paying attention to their needs.  She can be very sympathetic especially when someone is hurt.

This girl has an incredible memory!  We were passing by a place where she and Brandon went to get my car serviced and she remembered that after they waited, Brandon gave her a yellow, lemon flavored Starburst!  This was over a year ago!! She has also memorized several books and "reads" them to us.  She remembers so many things and is really good with directions.  She also can most of the time tell the difference between left and right.

She's sensitive to sugar. Her sugar highs are hilarious when she can't stop moving around or talking!

Aubrey was a messy eater but now she's grown to be pretty clean.  She takes FOREVER to eat!!  Even desserts!  She loves Chinese food but not Mexican.

She loves to help in the kitchen.  Whether it is stirring something or "tasting" she is always willing and wanting to help.  She is an EXPERT garlic peeler and loves doing it!

She loves to play with blocks.

Finally grew a little more hair!

Loves to swing!  Sometimes that's all she wants to do at the park.  Its really hard to get her out of it sometimes to go back home.

She might not always show this side to others but she sure is a talker.  She loves to talk with her hands when she is explaining something and she says the funniest things.  She is always saying, "lets talk" and goes on to tell you about her day when shes supposed to be going to sleep. She has a stuffed piglet that she has now named "Pliget" and loves to say, "I'm joking you" when she was trying to play some kind of trick on us.  Jump rope is known to her a "hop rope" and a fist pump is known as a "hand pump."  She came up with these all on her own.  Aubrey's conversations are so adult like sometimes that it's hard to believe she's only three.  She explains everything and doesn't stop talking at all when we are home. One day out of the blue she stated, "I am very little and very funny."

Aubrey really fights her naps, but lately she's really needed them and has slept really well.

Is all girl sometimes :).  Man this girl loves chapstick!

We call her 2 minute Aubrey because she really can't stand to play or really be into something for more than 2 minutes.  Even when we get things set up for her she wants to move on to something else quickly.  Our mornings together are pretty busy for this reason.

Loves to paint and do crafts.  Anything artsy really.

Loves to do puzzles and she's really good at them.

 Loves play dough.

Had her first real taste of the snow this year and she's already excited to throw snowballs and make snowmen.  Surprisingly she doesn't mind the cold :).

She is potty trained and for a reward got a tricycle and learned to ride it this year!  She's had a few accidents here and there but she's really doing great and we pretty proud of her.

Loves to play with sticks.  Who knows what her obsession is with them but whenever we are out for a walk she always picks up the first one she sees and carries it with her as we stroll.  Its a cheap thrill.

She loves to dance and loves music.  Her favorite songs are by Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson right now.  I don't quite know how they became her favorites but she loves listening to a couple of songs over and over again.  I was scrolling through radio stations and two songs always stuck out to her when she heard them. Daddy and Aubrey have dance parties on a weekly basis and the louder, more beat driving music to dance to the better for her.  We always sing to her before she goes to sleep and her favorite songs are "You Are My Sunshine," "Jesus Loves Me," and "Oh Holy Night." Yes, daddy has been singing a Christmas carol all year long :).

Has grown!  27 lbs (14%) and 36 1/4 inches (27%)

Loves dresses.  If she could wear this green dress every day she would :)

Went on her first camping trip and got really dirty.  She's not normally a girl who likes to get her hands dirty so this surprised us, but she sure had fun on her first trip!

Went fishing for the first time and caught a fish with her Dido.

Got her own big girl room this year and the verse on her wall, "she is worth far more than rubies," reminds us that even on the hard days she is our precious girl.

Loves bubbles and loves being outside.

This little girl has brought SO much joy and laughter into our family.  She is one determined, smart, high energy, and tender hearted little chica.  We couldn't have dreamed of how our lives would change when she entered this world.  She has exceeded every expectation we had and we couldn't ask for a more precious girl in our lives.

Aubrey, we love you so much and we are so thankful for you in our lives.  You amaze us every day and we love you more than words can say.  Happy third birthday Aubrey girl!!  Can't wait to celebrate you this weekend!!
