Fair Time!

Last week we had the chance to go to the California State Fair!

It was a quick little trip in the evening after Brandon got home from work, but it was fun to get out and see the exhibits and animals.

Correction...we actually got there a little late and didn't get to see many animals, but something was better than nothing :).

After we sampled the deep fried Oreos and had some dinner, we made our way to the rides. We told Aubrey and Lucy they could pick out a treat and to no surprise, they chose cotton candy :).

These girls love this stuff!

You wouldn't know it by looking at this face, however!

For the life of me I can't seem to get these two to look at the camera these days!

It was an interesting sunset that evening as the sun went behind billows of smoke from a fire not too far away.

Later on in the evening, we let Aubrey choose one ride to go on and she chose the farris wheel.  She wasn't quite tall enough for the bigger farris wheel, so the smaller one it was.  It ended up being a good thing because this little dare devil of ours got pretty scared as the ride started up.  Brandon gave me a "thumbs down" as I look on.  By the second time around she was happy, laughing and content as I got the "thumbs up" from Brandon.

We really wish we could have gone to the fair one morning when more things were open, but it was fun to at least go for one evening and experience a fair for the first time together.  I think we just may be coming back in the years to come!

Swimming Lessons ~ 2nd Time Around

The last couple of weeks have been filled with swimming lessons in the mornings.  Unlike Aubrey's previous experience with swimming lessons, this year went really well!

At first she was pretty timid about going in and wanted me to stand by her the entire time, but by the end of week two she was kicking and practicing her strokes with confidence!

Yup, this is the face she makes when she's really concentrating :).

Overall, Aubrey learned some new skills.  She was pretty good at kicking, but now has become a stronger kicker.  She submerged her face in water (which this was pretty huge for her considering she was pretty traumatized by getting her face wet during her very first swim lesson a couple of years ago!), she jumped into the pool, started to get her strokes down a little better, and can swim back to the edge of the pool a few feet!

Aubrey was feeling so confident and proud after the lessons finished up.  She did, however, revert back to some of her old fears when we got into her grandparent's pool on Friday :(.  We'll keep working with her and I think another round of swimming lessons before the summer is over wouldn't hurt either :).

We're so proud of you Aubrey for the growth that you made this year!!  Keep working on those skills that you've learned!  You'll be a little swimming fish in no time! :)

Bowling!

A couple weeks back we finally had the opportunity to take the girls bowling for the first time!  I had signed them up for Kids Bowl Free and we just hadn't had the chance to go.  But this particular Friday morning, all the stars aligned, and we got to take the girls :).

Of course the bowling experience was much different than if they were older, but it was still a lot of fun.  Aubrey really enjoyed it and Lucy, well...she gave up after a few turns (one reason probably being that her shoes were about 2 sizes too big and were bothering her).  She still clapped and cheered for Aubrey plenty though :).

Good thing for bumpers ;).

If you haven't heard of this program its really great (and completely FREE!).  All you have to pay for is the shoe rental and it's totally worth it :).  It was such a fun memory!
